Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information CarbCheck collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. CarbCheck (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is responsible for the personal data described in this policy. By using the app you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

• Account details — your name and email address when you create an account.
• Carb profile — the metrics you enter to calculate your goal (sex, age, height, weight, activity level and plan). These are health-related and used only to compute your personalized carb goal.
• Your content — daily logs, shopping lists, notes and favorites you save in the app.
• Support requests & feedback — including product error reports you submit.

Information collected automatically

• Device & usage data — basic device information and app diagnostics needed to operate and improve the app.
• Push token — a Firebase Cloud Messaging token so we can send notifications (you can disable notifications in your device settings).
• Purchase & subscription status — your entitlement state (trial / active / expired), managed through RevenueCat and the app store. We never receive or store your full payment-card details.

2. How we use your information

• To provide core features — scanning, search, carb calculations, logging, lists and sync across your devices.
• To calculate and display your personalized daily carb goal.
• To manage your subscription, trial and entitlements.
• To send service notifications and respond to support requests.
• To maintain security, prevent abuse, and improve the app.

3. Third-party services

We rely on trusted providers to run CarbCheck. Each processes data only as needed for its function:

• Google Firebase — authentication, cloud messaging and infrastructure.
• RevenueCat — subscription and entitlement management.
• Apple App Store / Google Play — billing for purchases and subscriptions.
• Open Food Facts — the open product/nutrition database used for lookups. When you search or scan, the product identifier or query is sent to retrieve product data.
• Anthropic (Claude) — when a product has no per-unit data, the product name/description may be sent to estimate carbs-per-unit. We do not send your personal account details for this.

4. Sharing of information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers above, or where required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users and the service.

5. Data retention

We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the app (More → Delete account), which removes your account and associated content. If you no longer have the app installed, you can ask us to delete it — see Delete Your Account for both routes and for exactly what is removed. Some records may be retained where required by law or for legitimate business purposes (e.g. transaction records).

6. Your rights

Depending on your location (including under the EEA/GDPR and Norwegian law), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise account deletion in-app, or contact us using the details below.

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data in transit and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to safeguard your information and limit access to it.

8. Children

CarbCheck is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. International transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than your own. Where it is transferred, we take steps to ensure it remains protected in line with this policy and applicable law.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above, and material changes may be highlighted in the app.
